They are not Green Anoles

We have, once again, found a baby lizard in our living room. I successfully caught him in a bag with the spider that he was chasing and had a good look. He was not a green anole. The only lizards that I know of in MS are green anoles, fence lizards, race runners and skinks. After taking a good look, I realized he was not any of those and started searching the internet. You've got to love the internet. They are Mediterranean Geckos which have been introduced in MS. They are primarily found on the coast but are also found in patches all over the state. They have pronounced stripes on their tails as juveniles, are very pale, have vertical eye slits, can be found in homes and are nocturnal. They can usually be found at night around lights trying to catch moths. So, the green anoles that I thought were climbing my house at night to sit by the lights (see previous post) are not anoles at all, but geckos. Who knew? Mystery solved. Now, if I could just find the mama of the two baby geckos that were living under my couch, I would feel much better.

I am going to go back and document all of the lapbooks that we have done since this summer. Nana wants to see pictures of the lapbooks. This lapbook was from a study on The Amazon Rainforest.

Bee Lapbook

This year we are studying life science which includes animals, human body and plants. We are reading library books on various topics and then making lapbooks to display our various worksheets or crafts. We finished this lapbook on bees last week. We studied the types of honeybees, how bees communicate and how they live.

The Olympics

Our homeschool co-op for September was a study of the Olympics. They studied the history of the Olympics including the symbolism of the rings, the torch and the colors. Then, the kids went outside to try their hand at some of the Olympic events. Below is a picture of Abigail throwing the javelin (broomstick.) They also had a craft time where they made t-shirts to wear on field-trips. The pink shirt on the left is Abigail's. She did a great job.
Abigail ran in an individual event and also a relay. This was the most she had ever run and was sore the next day but had a blast. She was upset that she did not win the race and said she would go home and practice racing the dog because he was very fast.
